Climbing 101
It is moi, Logo Panda here to remind you of how awesome I am at napping, eating, leg rubbing, conserving energy and to enlighten you on my superior climbing skills. Since my motto is to do as little as possible whenever possible, learning to climb was not my favourite activity as a young cat or even now as handsome grown -up cat
Climbing 101: for all kittens 4-6 months of age [ no younger, as claws are not hardened]
Rules
1. Listen to your mom all the time.
2. Everyone will learn this.
3. Daily practising until you can do it.
4. No mewing or complaining Panda.
Equipment:
· One very tall smooth pole or tree [makes it harder]
· Variety of surfaces and heights- buildings, vehicles, decks, short walls, fences,
· shorter trees, low bushes
Location: Outside classroom in Boss’s yard; 4 small fuzz balls looking waaaaay up to the top of 12’ pole.
Classroom comments [Panda]: “You’re kidding mom! You want us to do what? There’s no way! We’re too little! It’s too high! It’s too slippery! I’m already tired! Can we come back tomorrow? What do you mean I’m complaining! Can everyone else go first?”
· Mom demonstrates a leap up onto pole with claws out, nose up. She then scales pole in record time by digging in back claws and then lunging up, repeating until she was right at the top, and then sat there.
· We all tried, our first attempts only getting about 6” up before falling off.
· Mom came down nose first, taking her time, claws out, small steps, stopping to look around
every few feet.
· We all tried but could not get turned around very well.
· We spent the next two weeks, practising going up and down on everything.
Graduation: All four of us completed the training by going up and down the tall pole successfully. We celebrated with crunchies soaked in tuna juice!
Of course, I, Logo Panda, avoid this activity at all costs; it just takes too much energy! Look for the lowest to the ground solution every time!
