Panda shown here in pre-till garden pose.
Prepping the soil:
Every year the newly tilled garden must be given the 'Panda Rollover' by moi, before planting, to receive the official Panda mark of approval. Resulting depressions in soil allow for rainwater to pool for any future hot days when I, Panda, might need cooling off.
Deliciously soft, fluffy soil must also be marked by carefully placed deep paw prints from my large, wonderful, white paws to guide row planting. Much appreciated by the Boss.
2. Planting:
Following along just behind the seeder enables a more purrfect placement of each seed [accomplished by moi], whacking them out of their rows rather like lawn bowling, or grouping them together in patches. This creates ‘Pandasized’ garden rows, unique in the local county as no two are the same when we are done. Gardening is so entertaining!
3. Six inches high:
Once the seeds sprout and weeding has started, my ‘Pandasized’ rows become the best places for a twice-weekly hide and seek with my siblings, or if I am really feeling energetic, an hour of catching mice and rather tasty bugs for snacks. My siblings use the sneek-creep technique down a row [see post #3], peering through the leaves for signs of a sibling and then leap up and over the rows landing of course, on somebody’s back! I, Logo Panda, avoid leaping at all costs and just push through the plants to the next row. A short scuffle follows.
4. #3 Snooze spot:
Fast forward a few weeks when the weather is warm, and plants are about a foot high. My #3 napping spot appears; the iris or squash patch both have cool, damp soil and bendy leaves, pawsatively the best to lie on. Can’t understand why the Boss objects to me being comfortable?
5. Purrfect seed spread:
Later in the season, to get the best seed spread from flower pods, swatting wiggly flower blooms and seed pods is a must for moi. Shredded petals and strewn seeds are the evidence the Boss always seems to be able to find. Shortly after, ground cover for cats appears. I wonder why?
Publishing Mews:
The Boss is planning to have one book, possibly two published in time for Christmas.
Pawsing for now,
Panda
