We’re having a heat wave! No more frozen whiskers! Pawsitively loving this warmer weather! Look at all the meowy things moi has been doing: · Lots of naps snuggled up with the kits on the Boss’s deck. · Showing the kits snow removal techniques: it’s all about the back foot shake technique! Also nibbling off any bits of ice as soon as pawsible to prevent icing up. · Teaching the kits winter hunting strategies: identifying who made the snow tracks; learning to look under the big spruce trees in the leaves and grass that are free from snow; listening for mice under the snow; pounce practicing; staying dry and warm; learning how not to get lost. I do have some catspific winter techniques for keeping myself handsome and adorable [pic below] that moi, Logo Panda, am willing to share with all of my loyal fans: Staying Handsome Make sure hair does not get matted with snow and ice Groom often [I can’t believe I just said that [I hate grooming!] Snack as often as pawsible. Big perk for being # 1”: I get to eat first; have to keep up my strength! Practice my smiles & poses for promo camera shots. Winter Hunting Logo Panda here: Kit school studies continue! Notice the pics which illustrate the skills being taught. 1.Kits sneaking in late to class; that is moi, sitting by the pole. 2 & 3 .Skating: avoid splats or cats go flat! Cat paws are very well suited to skating; winter hair grows longer around the paws creating a little fringe that protects the pads. No tip toes on the ice! Kits must learn to slide and stride using the furry padding on the paws. Sideways manouvres are not recommended. Skating across ice helps the kits reach the winter hunting grounds. 4. The Stare: Handsome Moi looking up, purrfectly focussed on the prey, or where I hope the prey will appear. Notice my pink nose tipped up! Kits are currently in ‘squirrel mode’ their attention darting around instead of only looking at one spot. 5. The Statue: staying as still as long as pawssible which is tricky when your paws and bottom are on the cold snow! Prey ignores you if you don't move! Kits are now up to 3 minutes before they need to move. Moi ,of course, can stay still at least 10 minutes! Maybe it is because of my amazing, thick, long hair. 6.Scrunching: this used to be my special skill when I was a kit. I would always scrunch down or under to save a few steps. [remember I have always looked for the way of least resistance and effort] and could make myself half the normal size in order to go in or under somewhere. 7. Invisibility: having a handle on the Statue pose, really helps becoming invisible. Each kit must believe they are invisible, shrink or scrunch down to be smaller and not move! 8. The Pounce/leap: the goal of all these skills is to get your prey. Timing is everything! Learning to stay focussed and wait. Pouncing, poinking and boinking too soon or too late ruins the hunt! Dreaming : My farm cat self is dreaming of hunting, fish, crunchies, crunchies with tuna juice, lazy day naps on the deck or in my cabana, tummy rubs, chin rubs, more naps and snacks! Panda here, I have been purrcticing my announcer’s mews in preparation for the big day! I can't wait! I am so catcited! Since my handsome self loathes exercise, this role suits me just fine; I can still pose and smile for all of you, my faithful fans! Notice how well I am just hanging out, soaking up some rays, counting the days 'til the BIG RACE! 2nd Annual Larkspur Race will be held May long weekend which should give the track enough time to really dry. Currently it is still about half covered with snow mounds. The cabana spots in the caraganas are already being claimed. Pre-race reservation is recommended. Please call ahead before May 1 to reserve your seat. Each cabana will be licked cleaned and all leaves and grass inside fluffed. Snacks [tuna juice soaked crunchies with cheese sprinkles] in easy to carry baggies, will be supplied courtesy of the Boss and may be picked up from the east -side concession on the way to your cabana. Please arrive at least 15 minutes before race time so you are seated and not in the way of the track. This year track grooming is being looked after by the Boss’s hubby who makes sure the track is ready to go. Walk -ins will be accommodated at the west end of the cabanas. There is standing room only for up to 50 guests. Prizes: First prize has been upped from last year’s baked salmon to a yummy whole baked salmon with a bowl of cream. Meow! Second prize will be a bowl of tuna and a bowl of cream. Third prize is a bowl of cream. All Winners photos will be published on Instagram and Facebook. Purrticipants must pre-register my May 1. Logo Panda here, meowingly reminding everyone registration is closing tonight at midnight for the 2nd annual Larkspur Race Sunday July 17th at 2pm at Larkspur Race Track! We have 5 catenders this year for the lip smacking prize! All purrfect cabanna seats are booked but there is a whisker width of room left in the lounging bleachers. some standing room only in view of the finish line is still available. This year the concession will be by the track entrance and offer the following: Yummy tuna soaked crunchies in portable crispy cheese buns! Lots of fish flavored freezies! Grand Prize : a whole baked salmon cooked by the Boss. Runners up: will receive 2 days supply of tuna crunchies. Be sure to stay tuned for the race coverage and the announcement of the winners! RACE RESULTS Panda’s Posts July 18, 2022 2nd Annual Larkspur Race results! Handsome moi just chillin, after being so busy at the track! Logo Panda reporting: A sunny, hot day at the track brought out a great crowd with all cabanna box seats filled, bleachers full, and standing room only area packed! Concession stand had line-ups as fans arrived. Quite a few fans stopped at my announcer’s box wanting my autograph [pawprint]! This year 5 catestants rallied for the Grande Prize: Truckey James [last year’s champion], Harry, Oreo, Olive and Marina. The racers were in great shape [not like moi who is currently rather squishy], and all gave it their best efforts! All racers are required to stay in ‘scrunch-hunt mode’ ,travelling low to the ground as though they were hunting. Anyone breaking out of this style is disqualified. This is extremely hard to do for extended runs. When hunting, scrunch -hunt mode is used in short spurts with many pauses by the hunter as he/she secretly sneaks up on the prey. My right paw wave, and the crowd grew quiet. Rory Nigh gave the starting whinney, and the racers were off! Harry took an early lead, but Truckey and Olive caught him at the first bend. Marina had a steady pace; little Olive was tucked in behind. The crowd was yeowling with catcitement! Just past the second bend, Oreo made her move, coming steadily forward, gaining on everyone, even Truckey, who was so surprised he seemed to lose his focus. Harry moved up again and was ear to ear with Oreo. As the finish line approached, Oreo had a burst of speed, her quick footwork making an easy victory! The other racers flopped down in catzaustion on the track but Oreo made her way to the winner’s stand right away. The Boss was waiting with the baked salmon which was bigger than Oreo! Turning to face her fans, Oreo mewoed her thanks for a good race to the other catestants, and then dragged the fish by the tail to the designated eating area where she enjoyed her feast! Second place [a one month supply of fish crunchies] was a tie: Harry and Truckey Third place [2wk. supply o fish crunchies]: Marina Fourth place [1 wk. supply of fish crunchies]: Olive Most occupants of cabanna box seats chose to nap in the sun before leaving. Because the Boss does everything by hand [no digital illustrations], book creation takes a little longer. Images and text are all original, no copies from other sources.
